UNICEF DRC has a website and accounts on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. These web-interfaces are at this stage underexploited. The aim is to make them attractive to a wide audience, including young people in DRC and abroad. The website and social media shall be used as a pillar of strategic communication for the promotion of child rights and UNICEF’s activities in making them a reality.
Supervision: The International consultant will report to the Head of External Communication section. Guidance will be provided through regular face-to-face exchanges and section meetings.
Purpose of the assignment The purpose of this consultancy is to redesign UNICEF DRC’s website and related social media platforms (i.e Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, Google+). The threefold objective is 1) to strategically illustrate the added value of UNICEF’s action in the field through outreach to traditional and new audiences; 2) to build an online knowledge base/portal that will serve as a one stop shop where all resources regarding children in DRC can be accessed and issues discussed freely. 3) S/he will coach CO Communication focal points in the use and maintenance of social media and web-appliances.
Major Duties, responsibilities and output expectations (See attachment)
Qualifications and experience *Education: Advanced University degree in Web-design, ICT, applied communications or a related field. *Work experience: 5 years at least of relevant professional work experience in Communication and media, familiarity with information technologies and interactive digital media. Previous work in humanitarian or developing contexts is considered as an asset.
*Language: Fluency in French and English
Skills and knowledge *Excellent technical know-how of information technologies, social media and computer applications. *High-quality writing and reporting skills with the ability to express complex issues in easy language. *Ability to manage fundamentals of working in various formats – web, multi-media, audio-visual etc. *Knowledge of global human rights issues, specifically relating to children and women, and current UNCEF position and approaches. *Commitment to continuous learning for professional development. *Ability to work in an international and multicultural team with good inter-personal and communication skills.
Living Conditions and Working Environment
The incumbent will be based in Kinshasa, a non-family duty station and work in Communication Section.
Final products of the consultancy should be submitted at the end of consultancy.
Duration Based in Kinshasa the consultancy will take place during 3 months. Detailed work plan should be presented for adoption one (1) week following the starting of Consultancy.
